MSN Cell Phone Policy
Center Grove MS North will enforce the MSN Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy*, per SEA 185 (Indiana Technology Law). Students will be expected to refrain from using cell phones and other electronic communication devices during the school day. Cell phones must be turned off and kept in the student's locker.
ALLOWED:
- Cell phone remains at home.
- Cell phone is turned OFF and in locker.
NOT ALLOWED:
- During Arrival or Dismissal
- During Classes
- During Lunches
- During Passing Periods
No student cell phones can be visible at any time while the students are in our care and supervision, including arrival and dismissal, without the permission of an adult who is on duty, per the process outlined below under Emergencies.
To promote an environment that fosters focused learning and supports the well-being of our students:
- Our Goal: To help students stay engaged in their learning by providing clear boundaries.
- Benefits of the Policy: Research indicates that limiting screen usage:
- Enhances learning outcomes
- Reduces incidents of bullying and harassment
- Improves student mental health
- Emergencies: On a rare occasion that a student has an emergency or needs to clarify/confirm the plan for their way home from school, the student may ask a staff member for permission to make the call and then stay in an area where the supervising adult can make sure taking pictures, recording videos, or using social media is not taking place during the call.
* Students who utilize electronic devices to monitor medical conditions (per their IHP) will be permitted to use the devices for those purposes.
DISCIPLINE
A student who violates the MSN Electronic Device policy will have their phone confiscated and disciplinary action will be taken as outlined in the handbook.
